TTS
Sports Eastern Europe started in Romania with a "Sports Day"
in the spring of 2001. Since then, the Romanian program has
grown to include hundreds of children from local orphanages.
Program Director, Mugur Bogdan, is based in Romania and has
done a great deal to grow the program.
The
involvement of Americans has also be a key factor in the program's
growth. Last year several Rotary Clubs from Massachusetts
joined together to fund a new field in Romania,"The Field
of Dreams" on the grounds of a group home operated by
HOPE worldwide New England, TTS Sports' partner.
The field is one of the best in Romania and is used frequently
by children in the TTS soccer program (the most popular program
by far).
The
donations given by the TTS Sports families in the United States
have also been instrumental. These donations have provided
funding for equipment, uniforms, staff and rental costs for
indoor facilities. These funds also allow TTS/HOPE volunteers
to buy party supplies and birthday presents for some of the
children in the orphanages. Volunteers hold birthday and holiday
parties for the children, something the are not likely to
experience otherwise.
